Farmers markets in Black Hawk County begin to open the first weekend in May!

It’s finally spring. The trees are in bloom, the grass is a vibrant green and the air is crisp and cool. It’s also the time of year when farmers are harvesting rhubarb, lettuce and radishes and organizing their vegetable transplants and annual flowers for sale at local farmers markets.

That’s right. Farmers markets will begin opening in May!

Once the season kicks into gear, all six markets located in Black Hawk County will be open. During the first week of May, four of the six markets will open:

Farmers markets start opening in May!

The Cedar Falls Farmers Market is the largest in Black Hawk County. Items for sale include fruits, vegetables, transplants, flowers, baked goods, handmade gifts and fresh meats and eggs. As a destination, the market is also home to food vendors. While perusing the market, visitors can enjoy a breakfast burrito from Cottonwood Canyon, fresh-brewed coffee from Sidecar Coffee or even fresh-churned ice cream from Laura’s Homemade Treats.

Start your weekend or close your day with fresh produce and gifts from a local market.

Buy fresh, buy local!
