Fall events in the Cedar Valley 2018

There are always a lot of great events happening in the Cedar Valley in the fall so we’ll be sure to add events as we hear about them!


September 8

FX Fall Festival
Prairie Lakes Church, Cedar Falls
10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Family-friendly activities and games include laser tag, bounce houses, face painting, GameLiner, knockerball and more. Food trucks will also be available for purchasing lunch. Free and open to the public.

September 21 – October 31

Heartland Farms

Scarecrow’s Haunted Barn, Haunted Scarytale Cornfield, Pumpkin Playland, hayrides, Punkinator and jumping pillow!

Halloween at the Parks
McFarlane Park, Waterloo

You must be a registered camper to participate. Call 319-433-7275 to make a campground reservation.

September 22-23

Fall Festival
11:00 am – 4:00 pm
Cedar Valley Arboretum and Botanic Gardens, Waterloo

A celebration of autumn, families will enjoy demonstrations, live entertainment, scarecrow display, Show & Shine Car Show, storytelling and lots of craft and food vendors. $5.00/adult. Free for children age 12 and younger.

Big Woods Lake Campground, Cedar Falls

The Heart of Darkness

Dying for a good time? Face your fears at The Heart of Darkness! They have more than ten themed areas including House of the Walking Dead, Boggy Creek Swamp and Killer Circus. And, they have Zombie Paintball!

Harris Haven Funeral Home

Enter if you dare! Bravely enter Harris Haven and explore its many rooms and check out Ravenhurst Manor (new in 2017). It’s a killer combination! The Haunted Corn & Wood Maze are adjacent Harris Haven and included in the price of admission. 

October 3-5

Halloween Hikes
6:00 – 7:30 pm (tours every 15 minutes)
Hartman Reserve Nature Center, Cedar Falls

This year’s theme is “Home Sweet Home,” a non-scary walk through a candle-lit trail in the evening. A guide will take your family on a 30-minute walk to visit forest characters. Learn, have fun, and then have some hot cocoa and treats when you are done. Attendees are invited to wear costumes!

Tickets are $5/person (no charge for children age 2 and younger) and available only in advance. Call 319-277-2187 or stop by Hartman’s Interpretive Center during business hours.

You must be a registered camper to participate. First-come, first-served (no reservations).

October 5 – October 27

KW Paintball Halloween Zombie Shoot

This is where the undead reside and the humans try to survive! Visitors take a ride on their custom trailers through their paintball park taking out the zombies that are lurking throughout.

October 5 – October 31

Panic Park

Panic Park haunted house is back for 2017 and Hick's Place will be offering Zombie Laser Tag! 

October 6 – October 28

Waterhawks Haunted Hayride

Waterhawks Ski Team presents its Annual Haunted Hayride fundraiser beginning October 6! Come out to Eagle Lake to experience the thrill of a Haunted Hayride with family, friends, and a cup of hot chocolate. Double check their Facebook page, Waterhawks , for updates.

October 7

Fall Festival at Fox Ridge Winery
12:30 - 7:00 pm

Music of Milk & Honey from 4-7pm and family fun including hay rides, pumpkin launching, face painting, magic show, games and more. Admission is free.

October 13

Fall Family Fun Day
10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Cedar Falls Downtown District, 4th & Main Streets

Merchants will host family-fun activities at the corner of 4th and Main Streets. There will be a hayride through downtown, pumpkins to decorate, face painting, fall crafts and more! Free and open to the public.

October 13

Spooks, Spokes and Sneakers
Gateway Park, Cedar Falls
9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Annual bike ride and powder fun run to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa. Choose the 17-mile Halloween Ride or the 9-mile Halloweenie Ride. Following the run and rides, there will music and food vendors at Gateway Park. The general public is welcome to attend. Costumes not required, but encouraged!

Cemetery Walk
2:00 – 3:30 pm
Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls

Hear stories of Cedar Falls potters and artisans buried in Greenwood Cemetery. No pre-registration required. $5.00/person

October 24

Trick or Treat and Museum Minion Madness
5:00 – 8:00 pm
Waterloo Center for the Arts

Celebrate Halloween in search of minions at the Waterloo Center for the Arts. Colorful refreshments and activities will be provided, Minion-style. Reservations are required at 319-291-4490. $2/person for members, non-members $5/person.

8:30 am – 12:00 pm

The Core’s Halloween Comic Fest
10:00 am – 4:00 pm
The Core, Cedar Falls

 The Core’s Halloween Comic Fest is suitable for all ages. Receive one free comic book, get your photo taken with The Core's cast of characters between 10:00am and 2:00pm, meet guest artists and join the costume contest that begins at 1:00pm! 

October 27

Trick or Treat Downtown Waterloo
10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Children can enjoy trick-or-treating at shops in downtown Waterloo. This is a family-friendly event with a Kids’ Haunted House in the Black’s Building and a fall-themed photo booth at the Main Street Waterloo Office.

October 31

Trick or Treat Downtown Cedar Falls
3:30 – 5:00 pm

Merchants will be outside their shops for young trick or treaters!

November 3

Concert: Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas
7:00 – 9:00 pm
Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center

The Nightmare Before Christmas will be performed by the full wcfsymphony orchestra, live with the film. Tim Burton’s delightful stop-motion musical features a magnificent score by Danny Elfman and will be shown on a full-size cinema screen.
