Gran Fondo Cedar Valley 2017
on Tuesday, February 28, 2017
Iowa is a hotspot for biking enthusiasts. With more than 1,800 miles of biking trails, biking is a pretty great way to explore our state, especially when it comes to Cedar Falls. The award-winning Cedar Valley Trails system invites riders to bike more than 110 miles of trails along the river, through the woods and even to our vibrant downtown! The trails also play host to numerous biking events for all ages and skill levels throughout the year.
In 2017, Cedar Falls will again welcome the event, Gran Fondo Cedar Valley, a bicycle endurance event, to the Cedar Valley. Gran Fondo Cedar Valley has established its place as an annual downtown event and will return on August 19th!
Registration for this year’s ride is available until event day on the Gran Fondo Cedar Valley website. Whether you’re riding for beer, for food or for fun, we’ve got you covered. Your choice of a 100-mile or 50-mile Medio Fondo route will take you throughout the Cedar Valley with regular rest stops set up in towns along the way. Cyclists can also be chip timed. And a swag bag? You bet. Registered riders get a swag bag full of awesome goodies...a drink voucher for FondoFest, endurance items, coupons to retail stores, a bike tag, bike accessories and more (if registered before August 1).
This year's cross-fit competition, Fittest of the Fondo, will also take place downtown and will begin at 8:00 am.
NOTE 8.15.17: Trekman Racing's Fondo 5K run which was to start from downtown at 7:30 am has been canceled so that Trekman Racing can focus on another event taking place the same week that will assist a local family.
Following the ride, Community Main Street will once again be shutting down Main Street to host a full-scale FondoFest street festival!
In the afternoon, craft beer begins to flow at SingleSpeed's tapper trailer and Checker & The Bluetones kickoff FondoFest's live music at 1:00 pm. Stay through the evening to enjoy Sideshow Bob at 4:00 pm and Wilderado from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm.
There will be lots of great activities for the kiddos again this year as well! Bring them downtown to enjoy balloon animals, face painting and Strider bike obstacles, free of charge! Inflatables will also be available to enjoy for a small fee.
