2017 Halloween Haunts & Happenings

Tis the season for visiting haunted houses, attending Halloween events and doing some trick-or-treating!

To help you find your way, we’ve compiled a list of Haunts, Happenings and Trick-or-Treating for good ole ghoulish fun in 2017: 


HAUNTS 

Harris Haven Funeral Home

October 5-7, 12-15, 19-22 and 26-31
Open at 7:00pm
Enter if you dare! Bravely enter Harris Haven and explore its many rooms and check out Ravenhurst Manor (new in 2017). It’s a killer combination! The Haunted Corn & Wood Maze are adjacent Harris Haven and included in the price of admission.

Heartland Farms
September 22 – October 31
Monday – Sunday, 10:00am – 7:00pm
Scarecrow’s Haunted Barn, Haunted Scarytale Cornfield, Pumpkin Playland, hayrides, Punkinator and jumping pillow!

KW Paintball Halloween Zombie Shoot
October 6-7, 13-14, 20-21 and 27-28
Fridays and Saturdays, 7:00pm-midnight (weather permitting)
This is where the undead reside and the humans try to survive! Visitors take a ride on their custom trailers through their paintball park taking out the zombies that are lurking throughout.

Panic Park

Panic Park haunted house is back for 2017 and Hick's Place will be offering Zombie Laser Tag!

The Heart of Darkness Haunted Complex

October 6-7, 12-14, 18-21, 25-28 and 31
Open at 7:00pm
Dying for a good time? Face your fears at The Heart of Darkness! They have more than ten themed areas including House of the Walking Dead, Boggy Creek Swamp and Killer Circus. And, they have Zombie Paintball!

Waterhawks Haunted Hayride
October 13-15, 20-22 and 27-29
Open at dark, weather permitting
Waterhawks Ski Team presents its Annual Haunted Hayride fundraiser beginning October 13! Come out to Eagle Lake to experience the thrill of a Haunted Hayride with family, friends, and a cup of hot chocolate. Double check their Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/Waterhawks/ , for updates about their opening.

Zombies in the City
October 20, 21, 27 and 28
7:00pm - midnight
Adrenaline X Laser Tag invites you to their annual Zombies in the City event! Gather your team for the zombie apocalypse and test your skills with their realistic laser tag guns when a hoard of creepy zombies is chasing you!

HAPPENINGS

Fox Ridge Winery Fall Festival
October 7 (music was POSTPONED to October 8, 4-7pm)
2:00pm – 9:00pm
Come for an afternoon of fall fun!  There will be fun for all ages and activities include a hayride, pumpkin launching, food for purchase, games and live music.  Milk & Honey will be playing live from 6:00pm – 9:00pm.

Halloween Hikes, “Mother Nature Knows Best"
October 4-6
6:00pm – 7:30pm
Enjoy a non-scary 30-minute hike on a candle-lit trail with short performances by actors about Mother Nature! Hikes begin at 6:00pm and leave every 15 minutes until 7:30pm. Wear your Halloween costumes! (PLEASE NOTE that due to construction on Hartman Reserve buildings, this event will be held at River Hills School.)

Tickets: $5 each (ages 2 & under FREE). Tickets are sold only in advance and sell out quickly. Call during regular business hours to check availability of tickets.

"Song of Years" Cemetery Walk
October 15
2:00-3:30pm
Key characters from “Song of Years,” Best Streeter Aldrich’s novel of the settling of Cedar Falls are buried here, see them come to share their story.

Trick Treat & Troll
October 25
5:00pm – 8:00pm
Celebrate Halloween with the Waterloo Center for the Arts at the Phelps Youth Pavilion and discover colorful trolls! Tours will begin every 15 minutes. The evening also includes family-friendly activities and non-scary skits!

Tickets: Registration required by October 24. Tickets are $5/person.

Jack-o’-lantern Night
October 26
6:00pm – 7:30pm
The Waverly Chamber invites all the little ghosts and goblins to join the fun and fill their bags with treats provided by participating downtown merchants.

Halloween House
October 27
4:30pm-7:30pm
The UNI Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS), in collaboration with students from the Departments of Biology, Physics, and Earth Science, will host a “Halloween House.” UNI students will be performing Halloween-themed science demonstrations and supervising hands-on activities. Event is intended for elementery age children (but can be enjoyed by all ages). Costumes are welcome.

Haunted Library After-Hours Party
October 27
7:00pm - 8:30pm
Join the Waterloo Public Library for their after-hours celebration of the spooky! Make creepy crafts, mix scary concoctions in our science lab and take a tour of our haunted halls. This event is for 3rd-5th graders and their families (and may not be suitable for children under the age of 3).

Halloween ComicFest
October 28
10:00am - 4:00pm
The Core in Cedar Falls is more than a comic store and on Saturday, October 28, they'll host an event that's suitable for all ages. Receive one free comic book, get your photo taken with The Core's cast of characters between 10:00am and 2:00pm, meet guest artists and join the costume contest that begins at 1:00pm!

Witches’ Walk

Ladies, shop downtown Cedar Falls for a bewitchingly good time during downtown’s 3rd annual Witches' Walk! Find wicked good specials at participating businesses and witchy wear is encouraged!

Strolling with the Spirits
October 28
3:30pm and 7:00pm
Stroll down the paths of the Cedar Valley's past as actors bring local residents back to life. 2017 cast of characters include The 5 Sullivan Brothers & family, George Beck, Martin Blim, and Dr. John E. O'Keefe.

Teenie Halloweeenie Show with Bruce Day Rocks

SingleSpeed Brewing Co. in Waterloo and Bruce Day are teaming up for a free, family-friendly Halloween Bash that will include a costume parade, a ton of activities for the kiddos and live music from Bruce Day. Dress up in your favorite cosume and have some fun!

wcfsymphony Concert: Gary Kelley’s Nachtmusik

wcfsymphony invites you to enjoy spooky music of Halloween, featuring a newly illustrated horror story by internationally-acclaimed artist Gary Kelley.

Vintage Hitchcock - A Live Radio Play
October 29
At dusk (approximately 7:00pm), doors open at 6:30pm
Spies, murder, love, and other trademarks of Alfred Hitchcock come to life in the style of a 1940s radio broadcast of the master of suspense's earlier films. With stories entitled The Lodger, Sabotage and The 39 Steps, Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play is a triple feature that comes complete with vintage commercials. Staged reading.

Trick or Treat at Hy-Vee
October 21
1:00-3:00pm
Kids can trick-or-treat around the store, color and decorate a pumpkin and cookie. The first 100 kids will receive a free glow-in-the-dark bag!

Dress up and join SCHEELS and the Hearst Center for the Arts for Halloween fun! Journey around the store looking for the different stations featuring activities and a treat. For ages 4-12.

Main Street Waterloo invites you to Trick-Or-Treat in Downtown Waterloo! With over 30+ businesses, free candy for kids and a Haunted House (located in the Black's Building), you will not want to miss this! This is a free, safe and fun event open to the public.
