There's so much to do this holiday season! Check out this list of events taking place in December...
 

December 1
Breakfast at the North Pole
Cedar Falls Community Center
8:00 – 11:00 am
Enjoy pancakes, sausage and a beverage at Santa’s annual Breakfast at the North Pole. Santa and his friends will be joining the festivities! Holiday Hoopla event. 
$7/person ($8.37 through Eventbrite.com)
 

December 1
Holiday Celebration
John Deere Tractor & Engine Museum, Waterloo
9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Enjoy local choirs and musicians, snow-themed crafts and cookies with hot cocoa. Kids can also decorate a gingerbread tractor!
Free and open to the public.
 

December 1
Breakfast with Santa & Frosty

Waterloo Center for the Arts
9:30 – 11:00 am
Join Santa and Frosty for breakfast, pictures and crafts (followed by a snowflake scavenger hunt at the Phelps Youth Pavilion).
$8/member, $10/non-member (ticket includes admission to the youth pavilion). Call 319-291-4490 to check availability of tickets.

Family Ornament Festival

Waterloo Public Library
2:00 – 4:00 pm
While supplies last, families can create ornaments (and memories), sip hot cocoa and nibble on cookies.
Free and open to the public.

UNI Varsity Men’s Glee Club Variety Show
Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, Cedar Falls
2:30 pm and 7:30 pm
Always a fabulous show, the UNI Varsity Men’s Glee Club Variety Show is filled with beautiful music, a holiday skit and many fun and festive surprises.
$14/ticket. Purchase through a Glee Clubber or by calling UNItix at 319-273-4849.
 

December 1 and 2
Christmas with Wartburg

Neumann Auditorium (Wartburg Campus), Waverly
3:00 pm and 7:30 pm Saturday and Sunday at 3:00 pm
A musical tradition for 70 years, this annual Christmas concert features the Wartburg Choir, Castle Singers and the college’s wind ensemble.

December 1
Annual Tree Lighting
College Hill (2223 College Street), Cedar Falls
7:00 pm
College Hill merchants are geared up for the holidays! Before the lighting, visit Milkbox Bakery at 5:30 pm to enjoy live music by Moriah Wulff. After the lighting, warm up at Sharky’s with hot cocoa and egg nog. Visit College Hill Partnership to discover all the merchants located on The Hill. #HeadToTheHill
 

December 1-2, 7-9
A Christmas Carol, the New Musical
Oster Regent Theatre, Cedar Falls
7:30 pm Friday and Saturday, 2:00 pm Sunday
It’s a retelling of Charles Dickens’ classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge. Broadway-style score and lyrics are full of Christmas cheer.
$25/adult. $10/student. Call 319-277-5283 for tickets.
 

December 2
Holiday Festival of Lights
Marshall Center Schoolhouse (UNI Campus), Cedar Falls
Noon – 3:00 pm
Discover holiday traditions from around the world. Create decorations, frost cookies, share stories and enjoy treats. All ages are welcome, parking is free and there is free admission.
 

December 2
Holiday Ornament Workshop

Hearst Center for the Arts, Cedar Falls
1:30 – 3:30 pm
At this family-friendly ceramic workshop, children and adults can create their own unique ornament.
$10/adult and $5/child (kids ages 5 and younger are free). Register online or just stop in.
 

December 4
Meet Santa and his Reindeer

SCHEELS, Cedar Falls
3:30 – 7:30 pm
Bring the family to see Santa AND his live reindeer. Mrs. Claus will visit too! Arrive early because Santa has to head back to the North Pole at 7:30pm.  
 

December 6
Jingle & Mingle
Cedar Falls Downtown District
5:00 – 8:00 pm
It’s always fun to shop in the district during Jingle & Mingle. Participating merchants will have holiday open houses and from 6:00 – 8:00 pm there will be free, horse-drawn trolley rides, rides on the Holly Jolly Trolley and Santa will be in his workshop at 4th and Main Streets. Holiday Hoopla event.

December 8
Frosty 5K Fun Run Walk
First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls
8:00 – 10:30 am
This popular fun run is a Holiday Hoopla event hosted by the Cedar Falls Downtown District and Threshold Pace Timing. This annual race is so much fun! Costumes are encouraged and there will be contests, Christmas music, the Magic Mirror Booth, raffle, silent auction…and the fun run/walk! Be sure to check out their Facebook event for details of the activities and how to register.
 

December 8
Holiday Homes of Hope

Various Homes in The Cedar Valley
10:00 am – 4:00 pm
It’s the first annual Holiday Homes of Hope tour presented by Re/Max Home Group. Visit five homes that have been professionally decorated for the holidays.
$10/ticket
 

December 8 and 9
Winter Wonderland
Hick’s Place, Cedar Falls
12:30 – 4:00 pm
Crafts, treats, outdoor activities and a visit from Santa are all part of your visit to Hick’s Place!
$30/car for 6 or few people in car ($35/car the day of the event). Purchase tickets ahead through Eventbrite (link in their Facebook event). Larger groups call ahead to 319-504-2883 for ticket info.
 

December 8
Grinch Party

Waterloo Public Library
2:30 – 4:00 pm
While supplies last, create Grinch snacks, Grinch dust and play Grinch games! Activities intended for pre-kindergartners through 3rd graders.
Free and open to the public.

 

December 9
A Charlie Brown Christmas (live on stage)
Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, Cedar Falls
1:00 – 3:00 pm or 5:00 – 7:00 pm
In this stage adaptation of the beloved television special, Charlie Brown and his gang will hold their Christmas play and discover the meaning of Christmas…all set to Vince Guaraldi’s music.

Gingerbread Jamboree
Cedar Falls Public Library, meeting room
2:00 – 3:30 pm
Children and their parents can enjoy a craft and decorate (and eat) a gingerbread cookie.
Free and open to the public.

Bel Canto Cedar Valley Holiday Concert

Hearst Center for the Arts, Cedar Falls
2:00 – 4:00 pm
Bel Canto, a local chamber choir, is holding their annual holiday concert at the beautiful Hearst Center for the Arts. Arrive early as seating is limited.
Free and open to the public.
 

December 9
The Grinch on Ice

Young Arena, Waterloo
3:00 – 5:00 pm
Local skaters of all ages from the Cedar Valley Figure Skating Club will tell the story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas on ice. 
$10/person (children ages 3 and younger enter free)
 

December 13
Hoopla Cheer & Ugly Sweater Party
Cedar Falls Downtown District
6:00 – 10:00 pm
Participating bars/restaurants will be concocting and competing with each other to represent this year’s most popular adult beverage of Holiday Hoopla. You get to vote! Deringer’s Public Parlor will also be hosting this year’s Ugly Sweater Contest at 9:00 pm. 
 

December 13
Christmas Greetings on Main
Downtown Waverly
6:00 – 8:00 pm
Enjoy live window scenes, horse-drawn trolley rides in downtown Waverly and discover the “hot” spots featuring Nestle hot chocolate.
Free and open to the public.

December 14 & 16
It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play

Oster Regent Theatre, Cedar Falls
Friday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 2:00 pm
The 1940s movie comes to life on stage as a radio drama. Local actors will voice your favorite characters and create sound effects.
General admission tickets are available by calling 319-277-5283 (call between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm, M-F)
 

December 15
Movie Magic: Frozen

Oster Regent Theatre, Cedar Falls
10:00 am – noon     
Watch a movie that the entire family will enjoy at the historical Oster Regent Theatre. Stroll the Cedar Falls Downtown District after the movie and be sure to stop and see Santa at his workshop at 4th and Main Streets 11:00 am - 2:00 pm. Holiday Hoopla event. 
Free and open to the public.
 

December 15
Santa and His Live Reindeer
Kohlmann Park, Waverly
2:00 – 4:00 pm
Santa’s reindeer will join him in the park, but just for the afternoon. The reindeer will need to head back to the North Pole at 4:00 pm!
 

December 20
Baby It’s Cold Outside
Cedar Falls Downtown District
6:00 – 8:00 pm
Wow. Downtown knows how to make cold weather a lot of fun! Not only do you get to shop downtown at unique shops, the district will be decorated with more than 1,000 luminaries and carvers will be creating ice sculptures. Santa will also be in his workshop and free, horse-drawn trolley rides will be available between 6:00 and 8:00 pm. Holiday Hoopa event. 
 

December 21 & 22
Brazilian 2wins “Sounds of the Season”
Oster Regent Theatre, Cedar Falls
7:30 pm
Sure to delight the entire family, the Brazilian 2wins will engage you with their energy and unique sounds of the holiday. You’ll enjoy holiday classics, special guests, humor and surprises.
$25/ticket (main floor), $20/ticket (balcony), $50/VIP ticket (front row, meet and greet, swag bag and treats)
 

December 26, 27 & 28       
Frosty Fun Winter Camp
Waterloo Center for the Arts
1:00 – 5:00 pm
Ages 5-12 can spend an afternoon exploring the museum, creating artwork and enjoying a frosty treat.
