'Twas just days before Hoopla, and all through downtown, the HooHerd was scurrying to make final preparations for Santa's big arrival in downtown Cedar Falls! In its 6th year, Holiday Hoopla continues to dazzle children of all ages with a week-long calendar of events to celebrate the holiday season.
Each year, Holiday Hoopla kicks off on Black Friday with the highly anticipated arrival of the jolly man himself. In year's past, Santa has appeared from a magic book, ridden in on a jumbo sleigh, flown in via helicopter, arrived by train and even rappelled down the side of a building. His arrival is always a surprise, so be sure to join us on November 28th from 6-8 pm to see how he'll appear this year!
Prior to Santa's arrival on Friday evening, there will be a large stage at the corner of 4th and Main featuring the band WAGG and other local singers performing your favorite holiday music. Enjoy special appearances by Alvin and the chipmunks and several of your other favorite holiday characters and visit Mrs. Claus at Santa's Workshop while you wait for Santa to arrive.
After Santa's big arrival, make sure to join Santa and Mrs. Claus in the “Magical March Down Main Street” to the Hoopla Tree at 1st and Main where Santa will light the tree and conclude the evening with a grand winter fireworks finale over the Cedar River. The Hibbs Memorial Bridge (North Main Bridge) will be open to the crowd, providing a spectacular view of the tree lighting and fireworks. You'll love the energy of the evening so bundle up and come join the fun!
The fun continues through Christmas with events each Thursday and Saturday in downtown Cedar Falls. Shop til you drop during Jingle & Mingle on December 4th from 5-8 pm. Then, join Santa and all his holiday friends for an amazing feast of pancakes and sausage during Breakfast at the North Pole on December 6th from 8-11 am at the Cedar Falls Community Center. Tickets are just $6 and available online at www.cfholidayhoopla.com, at Sassy Chic and World's Window in downtown Cedar Falls or at the door the day of the event.
The bars and restaurants will also be spreading the merriment during the Hoopla Cheer drink contest on December 11th from 6-10 pm. Stop by participating establishments to taste various holiday drink specials and text vote for your favorite! Then, don your best holiday costume and join us for Santa's Snow Shuffle Fun Run/Walk on Saturday December 13th at 8 am in downtown Cedar Falls. Registration is now open at www.trekmanracing.com.
The streets will continue to be alive with magic during the final week of Hoopla. Watch as ice sculptors transform blocks of ice into beautiful works of art during Baby, Its Cold Outside on December 18th from 6-8pm. Plus, enjoy the soft glow of hundreds of ice luminaries that will line the sidewalks as you stroll down the street to shop dine and greet your favorite holiday characters. Holiday Hoopla concludes with a free showing of Santa Buddies at 10am at the Oster Regent Theatre on Saturday December 20th.
Make memories with the little ones as you enjoy several other fun activities that will be taking place throughout the month of December. Follow the spectacular music and light show to Santa's Workshop located at the corner of 4th and Main Streets where children can visit Santa and his elves on Thursdays, December 4th, 11th and 18th from 6-8 pm and Saturdays November 29th, December 6th, 13th and 20th from 11 am-2 pm. Snuggle up with a loved one to enjoy free horse-drawn trolley rides leaving from the Cedar Falls Public Library Thursdays December 4th, 11th, and 18th from 6-8 pm. A Live Nativity will be open at 6th and Main Streets outside Richardson Funeral Home on Thursdays from 6-8 pm as well.
Once again, this year's Holiday Hoopla celebration also includes a Coloring Contest just for kids! Coloring contest forms can be picked up at the Cedar Falls Public Library and Farmers State Bank in downtown Cedar Falls or they can be found online at www.cfholidayhoopla.com. Winners are announced at Movie Magic. And don't forget to write your letter to Santa and drop it into the red mailbox at the corner of 4th and Main. Be sure to include your return address so you can receive a response from Santa!
