We often talk about our coffee shops, but we can’t neglect how popular tea has become. The Cedar Valley reflects this resurgence in our joy of tea at cafes, retail shops, cafes and events.

In the Cedar Valley, you’ll find tea shops serving tea as it’s meant to be served, in a tea pot and china cups, along with tasty treats to enjoy.  The Tea Cellar and Laughing Tree Café are truly your tea advisors.

Tea Cellar
209 State Street, Cedar Falls
Open Monday-Saturday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (open until 7:00 pm on Thursdays)

The Tea Cellar has a selection of white, black, rooibus, green and herbal teas as well as a selection of sweets that change daily. The Tea Cellar believes in the tea experience and the desire to unwind and set electronic devices aside to enjoy tea in a cup and saucer. Paired with a pastry and served on a tray, you'll enjoy a cup of tea steeped to perfection (they'll even give you a timer to be sure). Want to enjoy their tea from afar? Visit their online shop, order their teascription (monthly delivery) or visit the Cedar Falls Hy-Vee where you’ll find a broad selection of their teas.

Laughing Tree Cafe
225 Commercial Street, Waterloo
Open Tuesday – Thursday, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Located inside the Waterloo Center for the Arts, Laughing Tree Café offers sandwiches, soups, salads and desserts. But they may be best known for their tea. More than 30 different kinds of loose leaf tea are available. Laughing Tree can hold private tea parties and explain the nuances of tea as well as the best methods for steeping a perfect cup. It’s about the experience of tea

In the case of the Tea Cellar and Laughing Tree Café, they’re active in the community and often plan special, tea events. It could be a tea party or special tasting. Watch their websites and Facebook pages for upcoming events.

One of newest tea shops is a bubble tea shop called PearlTea. What is bubble tea? It’s iced tea made with sweetened milk (and additional flavorings) and sweet “pearls” made from tapioca. PearlTea specialized in making bubble tea and offers lattes, smoothies and other seasonal drinks.

Tea Parties

The Tea Cellar, Laughing Tree Tea Cafe and the Grout Museum also offer tea parties during the year. In May, the Grout Museum will host a tea party at the Snowden House in Waterloo.
