Cedar Falls Fire Rescue: 150 Years

posted on Wednesday, March 29, 2017

Cedar Falls Fire Rescue: 150 Years is the 2017 exhibit at the Cedar Falls Historical Society

We have so many things to be grateful for in Cedar Falls and this year we think of the hundreds of firefighters who have served over the last 150 years. Throughout 2017, the Cedar Falls Historical Society will recognize and celebrate their contribution to the community with their exhibit, “Cedar Falls Fire Rescue: 150 Years.”

Every day, local firefighters come to the rescue. Modern equipment includes trucks armed with hoses and ladders and personal gear of protective clothing, oxygen masks and tanks, powerful flashlights and helmets. 150 years ago, equipment meant buckets and a handful of ladders.

The new exhibit, located at the Victorian Home & Carriage House Museum (308 W. 3rd Street), will be open to visitors until December 15, 2017. Visitors will find displays about firefighting equipment, historic fires in Cedar Falls, the department’s history and fire prevention and safety. Bring the family because the kids will enjoy the mini firehouse in the Kids’ Corner and completing a scavenger hunt for Dalmatians that are located throughout the exhibit.
