FIRST Robotics Competition Iowa Regional will be March 22-24, 2018

Power Up! That’s the theme of the 2018 FIRST Robotics Competition Iowa Regional taking place at the McLeod Center on the University of Northern Iowa campus, March 22-24.

More than 60 high school teams from Iowa and surrounding states will compete in this year’s competition. By the time they arrive at the McLeod Center, they will have spent more than six weeks designing, building and programming their robot to compete against other teams, maneuvering through tasks required by the competition. Each year, the theme and tasks differ. This year, the Power Up theme means that game characters (robots) and their human operators will be trapped in a video arcade game. To escape, the robots will need to use power cubes to control switches and a scale, pass power cubes for power-ups and then ascend to the “boss” at the end of the match.

Not sure what you’ll expect to see? Watch this short VIDEO to see the tasks and how teams will earn points to win.
