Plan an entire weekend starting with a trip to Barn Happy for a cup of freshly-brewed coffee and a homemade pastry. There's plenty to find in their century old barn, remodeled as an Iowa gift shop and restaurant. Or, shop for an antique or something vintage in the loft of the barn.
Next, visit historic downtown Cedar Falls. You'll find one-of-a-kind shops like Driftless Style, Vintage Iron Co. and Miss Wonderful. The Downtown District even caters to the gals at Girls' Night Out on the first Thursday in May and again in October. Always on a Thursday night, shops offer special discounts, free samples and prize drawings.
Maybe you and your friends enjoy being creative or learning a new craft together. If that's the case, downtown has several shops of interest like Hatchlings & Hens and the Crazy to Quilt Shop. Most of the craft shops offer classes in a variety of mediums. Three Pines Farm offers artisan workshops and Hatchlings & Hens has an open studio.
