Shop locally-owned shops in Cedar Falls

Cedar Falls Downtown District

Did you know that Saturday, November 24, is Small Business Saturday? The day celebrates and helps you discover small businesses. By shopping local, you support small business owners and the community.

It’s a big deal to shop small. According to American Express, 67 cents of every dollar spent at a small business remains in the local community.

College Hill, restaurants in Industrial Park, small businesses along University Avenue and our downtown district offer more than you can imagine, making these areas a perfect stomping ground for your holiday shopping.

Locally-owned shops set themselves apart from their competitors (and the big-box stores). Recently, the Cedar Falls Downtown District highlighted several of their businesses with videos on their Facebook page. Twirl Boutique is one of those stores and here is what owner Jenna Grover said about a service they offer that you may not have known about…

“Hi, I’m Jenna Grover, owner of Twirl Boutique located downtown Cedar Falls. As part of our business my mom and I offer a service that goes into people’s homes and helps them revamp their closet, using items they already have – it is called a Wardrobe Renovation.

The first thing we always suggest our customers do is pull out anything they have in their closet that has not been worn in a long time, and everything that they do not wear because they do not know how to wear it. These two points/guidelines are great starting points at creating new and exciting outfits.  We start by asking them to think about why they are not wearing these items. Do they no longer like it? Is it out of style? Has it been worn too much and worn out?

We strive to create several outfits with what our customers already have. You can easily make a more summery item work into fall and winter by pairing a denim shirt and cardigan over it or darkening its tones with a colored skinny jean or work pant that is a heavier material.

Look online or at Pinterest for outfit inspiration that mimics a style you like and try to re-create it with what you have! And if you still need help, give us a call – we would love to come into your home and help you style your closet for the winter season!
