Just before Christmas, when the air is brisk and the snow is falling, lean over to your loved one and say, “Baby, it’s cold outside.” The thought that comes to mind should be ice carvers and luminaries in downtown Cedar Falls! On Thursday, December 21, the downtown district will host Baby, It’s Cold Outside, where they actually celebrate the cold!

They invite you to stroll down Main Street to see three chefs carve ice sculptures. And, don’t worry about the dark. Your way along Main, Washington and State Streets will be lit by 1,000 icy luminaries. It’s a touch of holiday magic!

Between 6 and 8pm, take a free, horse-drawn trolley ride, enjoy the decorated shop windows and visit Santa at his workshop on 4th and Main Streets and see the spectacular light show set to music. You might even run into a few familiar holiday characters.

To keep warm, have dinner at one of the locally-owned restaurants or wrap up your holiday shopping at more than 30 shops located in the downtown district. You might even catch the beautiful sounds of choral and instrumental groups performing through the district.

Baby It’s Cold Outside is only one of many events that downtown will host during Holiday Hoopla in December. On December 2, Santa will join families for Breakfast at the North Pole at the Community Center. On the following Thursday, downtown merchants will have treats and specials for shoppers during Jingle & Mingle. And, don’t forget about Hoopla Cheer, the Ugly Sweater Contest and the Santa’s Beard Contest taking place on December 14! There’s also Santa’s Snow Shuffle December 9, Movie Magic on December 16 and Wrap it Up on December 23rd.
