Lift up Local

Cedar Falls Downtown District
Lift up Local is about enjoying time with friends in the district while supporting local shops. This is a special VIP event with a limited amount of tickets ($30 each) that include a shopping tote, a downtown gift certificate and exclusive access to specials and gifts that will be available only during the event.

Virtual Ceramic Jack-O-Lantern Workshop

1:00 - 3:00 pm
Hosted by the Hearst Center for the Arts
Have fun with your family making ceramic Jack-O-Lanterns from the comfort of your own home! An instructor will guide you as your family creates! Registration is required either online HERE or by calling 319-273-8641. Or, stop in at The Hearst to register. $20/family.

Virtual FrankenSTEIN Workshop

1:00 - 3:30 pm
Hosted by the Hearst Center for the Arts
Bring to life to clay and make your very own stein for Halloween! Learn how to hand build the base form and experiment with sculptural features to complete your stein. An appointment with the Ceramic Lab Tech will be made to glaze your stein. Registration is required either online HERE or by calling 319-273-8641. Or, stop in at The Hearst to register. Fee: $25($22) + $5 clay fee

Fox Ridge Fall Festival

Fox Ridge Winery in Traer
Fox Ridge Winery is planning another fun-filled event with activities for the entire family with games, food, Pumpkin Launching, a magician, hayrides and live music with Milk and Honey from 4:00 – 7:00 pm.

Fall Night Hike, Owls

5:30 – 7:00 pm
Hartman Reserve Nature Center
Story time and crafts will be held outdoors in the amphitheater followed by a hike in the timber from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. Hike will include hills and stairs. Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate shoes for walking/hiking and bring a flashlight/headlamp.
$7/family. Please REGISTER and let them know in the comments how many will attend. Individuals are welcome to register, too!

5:30 – 7:00 pm
Hartman Reserve Nature Center

Virtual Haunted Library Tour

8:00 – 8:15 pm
Hosted by the Waterloo Public Library
If you dare, watch this four-part video series featuring unsuspecting patrons’ late night visits to the library…and whether other lingering guests are also visiting. The intended audience for this series is grades four and older. Parents may want to screen them first to be sure it’s suitable. Visit their Facebook page to find the video link.

Visiting the Beyond: A Paranormal Presentation

7:00 – 8:15 pm
Hosted by the Cedar Falls Public Library
Via Zoom, join paranormal expert, Curt Strutz, as he shares his photography and stories of our country’s most haunted places. Event is free and registration is required. Visit their Facebook event to find the registration link.

Glow in the Dark Craft and Nighttime Scavenger Hunt

6:00 – 8:00 pm
Hartman Reserve Nature Center
Bring your flashlights and dress appropriately for this scavenger hunt on the trails. You’ll crack codes and hunt for objects before time runs out. You’ll also have time to create a glow-in-the-dark decoration using stickers, paint and webs using a soy milk container. Registration is required and participants age 18 and younger must be accompanied by a registered adult. $10/participant. The craft is also available as a to-go kit and also requires registration.

Virtual Hocus Pocus Trivia

How well do you know Disney's Halloween classic movie, Hocus Pocus? Find out in this family-friendly Trivia contest via Zoom Meeting. Registration is required HERE and opens October 1.

Halloween Hoopla CANCELLED

It’s the first annual Halloween Hoopla at Bien Venu! Enjoy trunk-or-treating, games, crafts, food and music…all socially distanced and outside on the patios.

Art & Wine Halloween Canvas

6:30 - 8:00 pm
Waterloo Center for the Arts
Spend a Friday evening sipping wine and creating with friends…at an appropriate distance.
This will be a canvas pour. Class will be held outdoors if weather permits. Registration is required at 319-291-4490. Members: $16. Non-members: $20.

Virtual Strolling with the Spirits

Hosted by the Grout Museum District
Reenactors will highlight voices of famous People of Color from Waterloo in this virtual version of Strolling with the Spirits. Registration required.

Virtual Tween Time: Halloween Movie Review

3:00 - 4:00 pm
Hosted by the Cedar Falls Public Library
Via Zoom Meeting, teens read scary stories and discuss the movies they chose to watch with their Movie Night Kits. Movie Night Kits can be reserved by calling or emailing the Youth Desk and can be claimed in the Library building or at their curbside pickup after registration.
