Santa's Workshop in the Cedar Falls Downtown District


It’s the season for hot cocoa, horse-drawn trolley rides, shopping, and concerts. So grab your December 2019 calendar. We've compiled a list of more than 30 events you can share with family and friends...
 

November 29
Holiday Hoopla Kickoff

Cedar Falls Downtown District
6:00 – 8:00 pm
Join the festivities and watch Santa arrive! Then, march down Main Street and watch fireworks over the Cedar River. FREE event.


November 29-30
Discovery Days: Frozen Science with Anna & Elsa

Bluedorn Science Imaginarium, Waterloo
9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Discover “Frozen” science. Admission fee to Imaginarium required.


November 30
Winter Wonder Loo

Black’s Building, Waterloo
3:00 – 7:00 pm
It’s Waterloo’s holiday kickoff! Santa will arrive at 3:30 pm and the tree lighting will take place at 6:30pm. This year, Winter Wonder Loo will offer a 5K Fun Run. Click HERE for details about the run.

Meet Santa and His Reindeer

SCHEELS, Cedar Falls
3:30 – 7:30 pm
Always a popular event, you’ll want to arrive early so that you’re in line to visit with Santa before he leaves with his live reindeer promptly at 7:30 pm. FREE.


December 4
Razzle Dazzle 2019

Dike
5:30 – 8:00 pm
It’s time to shop in Dike! All ages can enjoy activities that include a shopping market, business open houses, horse and trolley rides and a visit from Santa! FREE to attend.


December 5
Jingle & Mingle

Cedar Falls Downtown District
5:00 – 8:00 pm
Merchant open houses are always popular in the district! Enjoy the twinkling lights, strolling characters, a visit with Santa and a trolley ride. Free. Trolley rides and Santa’s Workshop will be open 6:00 – 8:00 pm.


December 6 & 7
UNI Varsity Glee Club Christmas Variety Show

Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, Cedar Falls
7:30 pm Friday; 2:30 pm and 7:30 pm Saturday
UNI Varsity Men’s Glee Club
Be sure to get tickets to this annual, festive and fun-filled holiday concert! It’s a show full of beautiful music and comedy. $15/person.


December 7 & 8
Holiday Family Fun Days

Marshall Center School
Noon - 3:00 pm
The family can enjoy decorating and ornament and cookies at the the schoolhouse. Free.

Christmas with Wartburg

Neumann Auditorium, Waverly
Saturday, 3:00 pm and 7:30 pm; Sunday, 2:00 pm
Every year, more than 300 students from the Warburg Choir, Castle Singers, Wind Ensemble, The Ritterchor, St. Elizabeth Chorale, Kammerstreicher, Kantorei and Handbell Choir delight audiences with international and traditional songs of the holiday. $21/person.

Breakfast at the North Pole

Cedar Falls Community Center
8:00 – 11:00 am
Enjoy a breakfast of pancakes and sausage with Santa and other fun characters. Be sure to bring your camera! $8/person at the door.

John Deere Holiday Celebration

John Deere Tractor & Engine Museum, Waterloo
9:00 am – 5:00 pm
There will be something for everyone! There will be performances by local choirs and musicians, crafts, a visit from Santa and cookies and hot cocoa. FREE.


December 7
Snowflake Express (Magical Mix Kids)

9:00 am – 6:00 am (departure times vary)
The Snowflake Express departs from the Open Bible Church in Waterloo. Riders enjoy hot chocolate, cookies and a visit from Santa. Departures are between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm. Tickets are $15/person and available at area Hy-Vee stores and now at www.magicalmixkids.org. Tickets are sold by departure time (9:00 am, 10:30 am, 2:00 pm, 3:30 pm or 5:00 pm) and some time slots may be sold out.  


December 7
Gingerbread Clinic

Fox Ridge Golf Club (355 Country Club Lane), Dike
10:30 am – 3:30 pm
Decorate a gingerbread house and enjoy a kid-friendly buffet. Each child will be provided with a constructed house, frosting and colorful candies. Cost is $20/child, $11/adult.
 

December 8
Christmas Celebration

Cedar Falls Woman’s Club
2:00 – 4:00 pm
Listen to the UNI Women’s Chorus, tour the clubhouse decorated for the holidays and enjoy a cup of wassail (and a cookie). FREE.


December 8
The Polar Express On Ice

Young Arena, Waterloo
3:00 – 5:00 pm
Local skaters, ages 4 to adult, will skate the story of the beloved book, The Polar Express. $10/person.

The Swingles Winter Tales

Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, Cedar Falls
7:00 pm
The Swingles will perform folk and jazz-inspired original music along with classic carols and Christmas songs. Tickets start at $20/person.

Spotlight Series Concert: UNI Holiday Concert

Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, Cedar Falls
7:30 pm
UNI School of Music ensembles will perform holiday favorites, winter-inspired works and more. $15/adult. $5/non-UNI student and UNI students enter free with their UNI ID.

Winter Wonderland Tea

Laughing Tree Tea, Waterloo
6:00 – 7:30 pm
Cozy up with a pot of tea and a spread of savories and sweets. $20/person.

Hoopla Cheer & Ugly Sweater Contest

Cedar Falls Downtown District
6:00 – 9:30 pm
Choose your favorite holiday, adult beverage from participating bars and restaurants and participate in the Ugly Sweater competition at 9:00 pm.

Santa’s Beard Contest

Kate & Co. Salon and Spa, Cedar Falls Downtown District

Stop by Kate & Co. on State Street and witness (or participate in) the 9th Annual Beard Contest!

Puppet Show: Holiday Extravaganza

Discover the magic of the holidays through a puppet show! It’s fun for all ages.

A Charlie Brown Christmas and The Night Before Christmas

Hope Martin Theatre/Black Hawk Children’s Theatre, Waterloo
The loveable characters of Charles Schulz are brought to life in this delightful show. For the price of one admission, an original musical presentation of The Night Before Christmas will precede A Charlie Brown Christmas. $15/adult, $10/student

Frosty 5K Fun Run Walk

First United Methodist Church, Cedar Falls
8:00 – 10:00 am
Dress up in your favorite holiday costume and have some fun taking part in the fun run. There’s even a ½-mile run just for the kids!

Breakfast with Elf on the Shelf and Santa Too!

Waterloo Center for the Arts
9:30 – 11:00 am
Enjoy a waffle and sausage breakfast, art activities, live music and more! $8/member, $10/non-member (includes admission to the Pavilion).

Brunch with Santa

Fox Ridge Golf Club (355 Country Club Lane), Dike
10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Festivities begin at 10:00 am and Santa arrives at noon. Enjoy crafts, music and treats! Kid-friendly brunch includes salad plus chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, green beans with bacon and onion, baked ham, chicken Marsala, dinner rolls and assorted desserts. Call 319-989-2213 to reserve a brunch time. $15.95/adult, $8/child (ages 4-12), children ages 3 and younger eat free with adult.

Jim McDonough and His Orchestra & Singers: Holiday Grande 2019

Pianist, Jim McDonough, returns to Cedar Falls with an all-new stage performance of holiday favorites with his 14-piece orchestra, singers and dancers. Tickets start at $29.

“Frosty” event will include character-themed games, crafts and snacks. For kindergarteners – third graders. FREE.

Winter Wonderland

Hick’s Place
12:30 – 4:30 pm
Santa arrives at 1:00 pm, Mrs. Claus will hand out cookies, there will be laser tag, the GameLiner, hay rides, a campfire, snacks and crafts.  $40/car load (up to 6 people). 75 tickets total are available for purchase.

Hearst holiday concert – Bel Canto

Hearst Center for the Arts, Cedar Falls
2:00 – 4:00 pm
Bel Canto Cedar Valle performs annually at the Hearst Center for the Arts. They are a community chamber choir and will perform holiday favorites. FREE.

Holiday Cookie Decorating

Cedar Falls Public Library
2:00 – 3:30 pm, meeting room
Children and their parents are welcome to decorate (and eat) a sugar cookie and enjoy a holiday activity.

Baby It’s Cold Outside

Cedar Falls Downtown District
6:00 – 8:00 pm
Shop the quaint shops of the downtown district, stroll the luminary-lined streets and watch as ice carvers create works of art from blocks of ice.

Metro Concert - A Jazzy Little Christmas Ernie Haase & Signature Sound

Movie Magic: Happy Feet

It’s a free showing of Happy Feet! Watch the movie and then visit Santa at his workshop at the corner of 4th and Main Streets.

Brazilian 2wins Holiday Show

The Brazilian 2wins return for their very popular holiday concert at the Oster Regent. You’ll want to experience their unique performance of seasonal classics…with a few surprises added for fun! Reserved seating is new this year. $15-$37/ticket.

Celtic Woman

Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, Cedar Falls
7:00 pm
Rejoice in the season with the angelic voices of Celtic Woman. They’ll share music from their second Christmas album such as Silent Night and I’ll Be Home for Christmas. The show’s ensemble also includes bagpipers, a full band and Irish dancers.
