New Freedom Rock is Dedicated
Nationally, we observe Veterans Day this Wednesday, November 11, and honor those who have served in the U.S. armed services. In Cedar Falls, we will also dedicate Black Hawk County’s Freedom Rock on Monday, paying tribute to our local, military heroes.
On November 9, the Freedom Rock will be dedicated at 3:30 pm in Veteran’s Memorial Park in Cedar Falls. Artist, Ray "Bubba" Sorenson II, finished painting the rock in September and it features Waterloo’s Five Sullivan Brothers, Robert Hibbs of Cedar Falls and Taylor Morris of Cedar Falls. It’s Sorenson’s goal to locate a Freedom Rock in each of Iowa's 99 counties.
With the dedication of the Freedom Rock, we recognize the service of all U.S. military Veterans. Please join us on Monday at the corner of Veteran’s Memorial Park in Cedar Falls (14th and Bluff Streets). Gen. Ronald Albrecht will be the short program's featured speaker.

The Freedom Rock is part of a planned expansion of the Veteran’s Memorial Park in Cedar Falls, and the committee would like to thank: American Legion, Garth Huffman, Magee Construction, Emerson Crane, Petersen Contractors, Diamond Vogel Paint, Cory’s Painting, Advanced Refinishers and the City of Cedar Falls.
The Cedar Falls Tourism & Visitors Bureau and visitor center would also like to thank all active military personnel and Veterans for their service.
