Movies Under the Moon & Live to 9, plus Friday Night Loops

Outdoors is the place to be this summer in Cedar Falls. Remember going to the Drive-in movie theater? For many of you , probably not. But it was a great way to see movies on the big screen while under the moon and stars. Community Main Street, along with the James & Meryl Hearst Center and the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center have brought that back in another format called Movies under the Moon, in their 10th year and it is FREE and open to the public! Movies Under the Moon features a wide variety of family-friendly films that will run on six different Friday evenings this summer at Overman Park in Cedar Falls. Bring along a blanket or lawn chair to sit on, enjoy the Cedar Valley Acoustic Guitar Association musicians starting at 6:30 pm, then the movies at dusk (around 9 pm) on the big screen! Live to 9, a joint venture between the Cedar Valley Jaycees and the Cedar Basin Jazz Festival, is also happening on the same Friday night schedule as Movies Under the Moon, so you can enjoy music in Sturgis Park, then wander over to Overman Park to hear the Cedar Valley Acoustic guitar and see the movie. On top of all that, the Cedar Valley Cyclists are bringing back the Friday Night Loops bike rides, synchronizing with the Movies Under the Moon and Live to 9 schedules. (The only exception to this is July 26th, when there will be no bike ride.) The purpose of these rides, led by CVC members, is to educate and encourage citizens about safe cycling practices while riding the city's streets. Rides begin at 7 pm in Overman Park. Visit http://www.cedarvalleycyclists.org. A free valet bicycle parking service, organized by Bike Tech, will be offered in the park as well. Enjoy these fun-filled Friday evenings where there really is something for everyone!
