(Second State Brewing, Cedar Falls)
A unique partnership exists between our biking and running groups and local breweries – a delicious and refreshing partnership!
Although no one is promoting exercise and beer as a health craze, the relationship between biking and running in a group and beer may be that it helps build relationships. A ride or run followed by a trip to a local brewery makes for a good night out with friends, a couples outing or just a refreshing end to a sporting challenge.
It’s as much as an experience enjoying a craft beer as biking and running with friends and family. Our breweries are locally owned and there’s a lot of pride in the infusions, barrel-aged brews, and the latest pours in their taprooms. The breweries “give back,” offering a free glass of brew after your workout.
No Car BOGO
With early seasonal temps, No Car BOGO (Buy One Get One) at Lark Brewing in Waterloo has already started. If you ride your bike to Lark and buy a drink, your next drink (of equal or lesser value) is FREE! Follow Lark Brewing on Facebook to catch upcoming No Car BOGO events as they’re posted.
Pint Night Ride
On the first and third Thursday evening of the month, May – October, meet at Bike Tech in Cedar Falls for a leisurely bike ride on Cedar Valley Trails to SingleSpeed Brewing’s Waterloo taproom for a bite to eat and a beverage. Ride is approximately 15 miles roundtrip. If you want to start in Waterloo, meet at the Waterloo Bicycle Works at 5:30 and make your way to the official start at Bike Tech at 6:15. First time riders will need to register and a helmet and bike lights are required. When it becomes available, we’ll post the date of the first ride of the 2018 season here!
Spokes Women 2.0
On Tuesday evenings, ladies leave from SingleSpeed Brewing’s Cedar Falls taproom at 6:00pm. Generally, two routes are offered of different lengths. Routes change and may take place on roads and bike trails. The Long route (about 30 miles) and Medium route (about 20 miles) are typically posted on the Spokes Women’s Facebook page before each ride. Visit their Facebook page and request to join if you’re interested in rides. First ride is $5 and then you'll receive a wrist band for future rides. Social time follows at SingleSpeed Brewing (show your wristband for a free beverage after your ride). In the winter, rides are indoors at Europa Cycle and Ski (just bring your bike, towel and water). Spin or join in the workout.
All abilities are encouraged to join The Runner’s Flat for a coached, group run (or workout in the winter). Year-round, the group meets every Thursday evening. They’ll work with you to help you attain your fitness goals. Then, after your run, enjoy a free brew at SingleSpeed Brewing.

Cedar Valley Gran Fondo
What is a bike ride without a street festival and beer? Fondo Fest is the street festival in downtown Cedar Falls that follows the Cedar Valley Gran Fondo 100-mile and 50-mile bike rides on August 18. Riders get a complimentary brew from SingleSpeed Brewing and visitors get to imbibe and enjoy live bands. SingleSpeed even created the German Pils, Jane Fondo, specifically for the event.
Twisted Spokes hosts Twisted Cross for two days in November. Cyclocross races at Tondro Pray Bike Park in Cedar Falls will have categories for masters and first-time racers. Spectators are also welcome to attend. In 2017, food was provided by Doughy Joey’s Peetza Joynt and beer by SingleSpeed Brewing.
