Cross-country Skiing in Hartman Reserve Nature Center
Want to find an outdoor activity that makes winter seem shorter? Want to find an outdoor activity that you can enjoy with other like-minded people? Cross-country skiing could be the sport for you!
The Cedar Valley Trails Partnership, through local avid skiers, is sponsoring free ski lessons on a weekly basis through the winter of 2023. Obviously, conditions won’t allow for skiing every weekend. Please check the Facebook page “Cedar Valley Nordic Skiing” to learn skiing conditions and whether lessons will take place.
Most events/lessons will occur on Irv Warren Golf Course (Byrnes Park in Waterloo) as they have the best groomed ski trails in the area. If conditions dictate, we may ski at other locations.
Ski Tours – Returning for 2023 we will again have Sunday afternoon ski tours starting at 1:30 PM. Tours are open to anyone interested, just show up with your own equipment. When we have suitable conditions to hold an event that will be announced on the Facebook page “Cedar Valley Nordic Skiing” by Friday night.
Ski Lessons – Reservations are required by emailing xc.ski.wloo.cf@gmail.com. Four different options are being offered, Beginning Classical (traditional method), Intermediate Classical, Beginning Skating and Intermediate Skating. See the Facebook page “Cedar Valley Nordic Skiing” and the posting on Ski Lesson Options for more details. Only one of these options will be offered on a given week, hence the need for reservations and scheduling. Coordination of ski lessons will be done via email.
Don’t own your own skis? Two local businesses offer rental skis, UNI Recreation Services in Cedar Falls and CrawDaddy Outdoors in Waverly. Also note that rental of skating skis is not available locally.
