Panther Parkway becomes Playoff Parkway to honor State Football Championships

Cedar Falls Tourism has done it again, this time bringing together City Officials, University of Northern Iowa Staff and the Iowa High School Athletic Association, to officially kick off the IHSAA State Football Semi-Finals with a temporary name change to Panther Parkway.

To do so, the group held a press conference outside the UNI Dome. After an introductory speech from UNI Athletic Director David Harris, Mayor Green of Cedar Falls unveiled a street sign reading “Playoff Parkway”.

"The naming and dedication of this street not only allows us celebrate the present, but to look forward to the future of the IHSAA State Football tournament in Cedar Falls. As players, coaches and fans walk along this street in the years to come, may it inspire them to play hard and cherish the moment."  said Mayor Green.

The Mayor also noted that this dedication serves as a reminder of the people and events that have helped shape our community. The IHSAA State Football tournament is a multi-million dollar economic impact generator, attracting visitors from all across the state to Cedar Falls.

Iowa High School Athletic Association Executive Director, Tom Keating wrapped up the dedication by saying" Thanks to all you, and let's have a great week of football!"

Adam Bolander of Cedar Falls Tourism explained that the idea was brought up about 6 months ago during a team brainstorming session. "After seeing Las Vegas dedicate "Draft Drive" to the NFL, I knew exactly what we needed to do to really bring that 'wow' factor to the State Football Tournament. This is so much more than an event, it's a statement for what strong partnerships can do for the tourism industry."

Cultural and Tourism Programs Manager, Jennifer Pickar, also noted, "We were happy to work with UNI to do something extra fun this year and temporarily rename Panther Parkway to Playoff Parkway during this significant event. Our community loves to host this event each year and we’re dedicated to making it a fun and memorable experience for the athletes and fans."
