Things to Do: Visit Downtown Cedar Falls!

posted on Wednesday, August 29, 2012

On any given day of the week, you can head to downtown Cedar Falls and see the streets bustling with people. Within a 4-5 block stretch, you can find just about everything you need for a fun afternoon out on the town. Spas, shopping, dining, relaxing. Quirky and energetic. Simple and fun.

Main Street has a lot to offer people of all ages and interests.

Ladies, start your day with a latte from Cup of Joe, and browse the many clothing shops that line Main Street. Sweet Basil Market sells a plethora of bulk and unique food items, Kitchen Essentials will get you ready to take on the world’s best cooks, and World’s Window sells the best free trade gifts in town. Take a break for lunch at Tony’s La Pizzeria, Montage, or Los Cabos, and make sure to stop for dessert at Scratch Cupcakes, a local favorite! Guys, get your bicycle tuned up at Bike Tech, and follow Main Street north to Gateway Park to get onto the Cedar Valley Lakes Trail that rides through George Wyth State Park. Once you make your way back to downtown, grab a cold drink at the Pump Haus or Toads Bar and Grill, then head to Joker’s Comedy Night Club to laugh the night away.

Back in the 1980s, the downtown area was nothing but empty shops. Thanks to the revitalization efforts by Community Main Street, Cedar Falls was awarded the Great American Main Street Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 2002. The same group also named Main Street the 2010 Distinctive Destination. If you haven’t been downtown yet, you better go, and see what it’s all about!
