Holiday Hoopla is the Cedar Falls Downtown District’s annual, month-long celebration! The month of December is filled with activities for the kids, horse-drawn trolley rides, shopping events and holiday contests!

Breakfast at the North Pole, Reindeer Games, Movie Magic, Jingle & Mingle and Baby, It’s Cold Outside are just a few of the can’t-miss events taking place in 2018, the 10th anniversary of Holiday Hoopla.

Every Thursday enjoy horse-drawn trolley rides from 6:00 – 8:00 pm starting from the parking lot of the Cedar Falls Public Library. You’ll also find Santa at his workshop from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Thursdays and Saturdays from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. 

November 23
Santa Arrives (entertainment at 4th and Main Streets cancelled due to rain, but Santa will still arrive and fireworks will still take place!) 
Visit the downtown district from 6:00 – 8:00 pm for this special event with live music, entertainment and Santa and Mrs. Claus’ arrival. Every year, it’s a surprise how they will make their entrance. This very special event is capped off by fireworks!  

November 29
Reindeer Games
6:00 - 8:00 pm
Wow! Participating merchants in the downtown district will have games related to reindeer. Really. What’s YOUR reindeer name? Decorate cupcakes and cookies. Face painting. It’ll be a fun evening for shopping and reindeer activities! 

December 1
Breakfast at the North Pole
8:00 – 11:00 am
Cedar Falls Community Center
This is always a popular event for families…because Santa and friends will be at breakfast! Tickets are just $7/person for pancakes, sausage and a beverage. 

December 6
Jingle & Mingle
5:00 – 8:00 pm
If you like to shop….this is the place to be! Enjoy merchant open houses, carolers in the district and horse-drawn trolley rides. Holiday characters will be greeting everyone, too!

December 8
Frosty 5K Fun Run Walk
8:00 – 10:00 am
First United Methodist Church
Dress up in your favorite holiday costume and have some holiday fun while you run! Kids 10 years old and younger also have 1-mile run just for them! There are so many fun activities taking place, be sure to check out their Facebook event HERE. Click HERE to register. 

December 13
Hoopla Cheer and Ugly Sweater Contest
(and Santa’s 9th Annual Beard Contest!)
6:00 - 10:00 pm
Hoopla Cheer? This is a contest of unique, adult beverages from participating bars and restaurants. And, on the same evening, Deringer’s Public Parlor will host the Ugly Sweater Contest at 9:00 pm.  

December 15
Movie Magic: Frozen
10:00 am – noon
This is a free showing of the movie Frozen at the historical Oster Regent Theatre in the downtown district. After the movie, be sure to walk down to 4th street to see Santa who will be at his workshop until 2:00 pm! 

December 20
Baby, It’s Cold Outside  
6:00 - 8:00 pm
It’s never too cold to shop the quaint and locally-owned shops of the downtown district! The streets will be lined with luminaries and sculptors will be carving blocks of ice. 

December 22
Wrap it Up!    
It’s time to head to the district to wrap up some shopping. This will also be the last day that Santa will be at his workshop (11:00 am – 2:00 pm) before his big ride on December 24!
