INFINITE RECHARGE! That’s the theme of the 2020 FIRST Robotics Competition Iowa Regional taking place at the McLeod Center on the University of Northern Iowa campus, March 26-28.

More than 45 high school FRC teams from Iowa and surrounding states will compete in this year’s competition. By the time they arrive at the McLeod Center, they will have spent more than six weeks designing, building and programming their robot to compete against other teams, maneuvering through tasks required by the competition. Each year, the theme and tasks differ. This year, the INFINITE RECHARGE theme is inspired by Star Wars - Rise. Using alliance droids (robots), planetary citizens (drivers) must collect and score power cells as well as fulfill particular challenges before the end of the match.

Not sure what to expect? Watch this short VIDEO to see the tasks and how teams will earn points to win.

Practice matches will be held on Thursday, March 26, and qualifying matches will be held on Friday, March 27. The best day to watch the competition will be Saturday afternoon, March 28. Playoff matches will take place between 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm with an award ceremony following (click HERE to see the day’s schedule). The public is welcome to attend this family-friendly event and admission is free. Even the pits will be open for a tour. This is where teams fine tune their robots in the UNI-Dome before competition. Parking will be available in the parking lots west and south of the UNI-Dome. They're still determining the cost $/car for parking.

STEM education is teaching and learning in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This competition celebrates science and technology.
