Cedar Falls, Iowa is a great place to shop, dine and have fun - in the winter!

Cedar Falls Downtown District

When the snow begins to fall, Cedar Falls becomes a winter getaway. It’s the place where you can cozy up to a big mug of hot cocoa, hit the trails with your fat bike, do a little shopping or get creative with friends.

It doesn’t matter whether you visit on a Thursday or a Saturday, when you’re in Cedar Falls, it feels like the weekend. You make your own schedule, not your watch.

Shopping is easy in Cedar Falls. The downtown district is home to more than 30 unique and locally-owned shops and the eateries are superb. Whiskey Road offers a wide selection of whiskeys and a menu that changes with the seasons. Montage also offers fine dining and an upstairs patio that’s worth experiencing when the weather warms.

Cup of Joe, Cottonwood Canyon, and Sarah's Espresso Cafe are located in the downtown district and Sidecar Coffee has a location at 1st Street and Hudson Road, on College Hill (at 2215 College Street) and a new location at Viking Road, 924 Viking Road.

Winter in Cedar Falls includes outdoor fun, too! With more than 100 miles of trails, visitors often trek onto wooded trails with fat bikes, cross-country skis, snowshoes, or just boots. No matter how you enjoy the trails, a warm up at one of our two breweries located in the downtown district is just the ticket to re-energize (or relax). Be sure to check our Second State Brewing and SingleSpeed Brewing Co.

There’s more shopping, more breweries and more activities than you can enjoy in one day, so we’d like to suggest an overnight. The Black Hawk Hotel is the oldest, continuously operating hotel in the country and it has 28 historic guest rooms. All our hotels are close to the University of Northern Iowa, restaurants, trails and shopping.
