There are a lot of reasons to head to the Cedar Falls Downtown District. It’s home to more than 30 unique shops, 20 locally-owned restaurants and two breweries. The downtown district is also an Iowa Cultural & Entertainment District which means it’s walkable and a hub of cultural activities. Sculptures along Main Street add to the streetscape and offer shoppers a treat for the eyes as they rest between shops. Along the riverfront, more seating is available for a rest or a picnic and the impressive Gateway to the Trails sculpture greets visitors arriving to the district by car or by bike on Cedar Valley Trails.
What else does the district offer? Historic architecture. With all the activity in the district, it may be easy to overlook the details that add to its significance. So we invite you and your family to visit the downtown district and challenge you to identify 30 unique architectural details in our Downtown Tour & Hunt. The hunt will take you on a 20-block walking or driving tour throughout the district.
The tour will take you by the Cedar Falls Historical Society’s Victorian House Museum, Overman Park, the Ice House Museum and the Little Red Schoolhouse and then through the downtown district and along the Cedar Falls Public Library and Cedar Falls Community Center.
Pick up a beverage, lunch or snack to enjoy along the way. Take your camera and tag us with #WeKnowHowToWeekend in your social media posts. We’d love to see what you discover!
