Season of Scarecrows and Pumpkins 2020

Fall is here! Time to enjoy pumpkins and lots of scarecrows! The Cedar Falls Downtown District and Cedar Valley Arboretum & Botanic Gardens have a full display of hay-filled friends that are ready for your next photo op. PUMPKIN PATCHES

Hanson's Hallow
September 20 - October 31, 2020
A local source for all your fall fun and pumpkins, gourds, squash, and other fall decorating needs!


Heartland Farms
September 25 - October 31, 2020
Experience their large pumpkin patch plus the Punkinator, treehouse slide, bouncer and Scarecrow's Haunted Barn.  $10/$12/person (kids 2 and under enter free)
 

Kiefer Farms
This third-generation family farm offers a great selection of pumpkins, gourds and squash. They also have family-friendly Halloween activities. 


Local Farmers Markets
Eight farmers markets in Black Hawk County offer fresh, seasonal produce including pumpkins, apples, squash, cabbage and more. 
 

Open Air Market
September 12 - October 21, 2020
Cedar Valley Arboretum, Waterloo
You'll find flowers, produce and pumpkins! The arboretum prefers credit card versus cash purchases because exact change it required. 


The Patch
September 25 - October 31, 2020
Visit the newest pumpkin patch in Cedar Falls located at 305 Roosevelt Street. You'll find pumpkins, mums and gourds and autumn merchandise. There are a few games for the kids, too.

Scarecrow Stroll

Cedar Valley Arboretum, Waterloo
$5/adult, $2/child (ages 5-17)
Young children and arboretum members enter at no charge.
Walk through the vast gardens to find a variety of scarecrows made by organizations and volunteers.They also have an open-air market where you can purchase pumpkins.  


September 25 - October 10, 2020
Scarecrow Stroll

Cedar Falls Downtown District
A population of scarecrows have arrived in the district. They decorate storefronts and create a terrific photo op for your next weekend getaway in October. Click HERE to view a map of their locations!


October 4, 2020
Make & Take Scarecrow

1:00 - 4:00 pm
Waterloo Center for the Arts
$29 for WCA members and $37 for non members (per family)
Supplies, including hay, will be provided for families to make their own scarecrow. This event will be held outside so that participants can socially distance. Registration is required and space is limited. Call 319-291-4490.

Fox Ridge Fall Festival

Fox Ridge Winery in Traer
Fox Ridge Winery is planning another fun-filled event with activities for the entire family with games, food, Pumpkin Launching, a magician, hayrides and live music with Milk and Honey from 4:00 – 7:00 pm.

Get in the holiday spirit and paint pumpkins on canvas in their front studio. Registration required.

Fall Colors painting

Fill a canvas with blue and orange tones to create a lovely autumn scene. Registration required. 


October 27, 2020
Fall Decorations & Book Pumpkin Centerpiece

6:00 - 8:00 pm
Hartman Reserve Nature Center, Cedar Falls
$10/participant (intended for ages 13 and older and those 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult)
Create your own pumpkin centerpiece out of a book and natural items. A to-go kit is also available. Registration is required for the in-person class and to-go kit HERE

Candlelight Walk

5:00 - 7:00 pm
Waverly Rail Trail
Enjoy a stroll on one mile of trail beginning at the shelter at 412 1st Ave SE behind Kwik Star East. Complimentary hot cocoa will be fprovided by Nestle at the bonfire (turn around point).

Fall Hike
(for adults)
9:00 - 10:00 am
Hartman Reserve Nature Center
Walk through the woods! This fall hike, guided by Hartman naturalists, will be for adults only with a more in-depth discussion about nature-related topics.
Registration is required. Cost: $3/adult.

Harvest Hikes

Hartman Reserve Nature Center
Naturalists will lead participants on a hike through the woods to look for critters that are common during this time of year! Registration is required. Cost: $3/person. Children 3 and under enter FREE.
